The first edition of the online Master The Art Market Ecosystem. Art Collecting, Advisory, and Fiscal Frameworks aims to provide insight into the dynamics of the worldwide art market to an international audience.
By bridging the gap between historical market practices and the digital revolution, the course led in English by Dr. Giada Pellicari, Dr. Roberta Guiducci and Prof. Marco Greggi, offers a rigorous framework for understanding the past, present, and future of art as a cultural and financial asset.
Moving below the surface of art fairs, galleries and auction houses, this program explores the essential connections between market dynamics, strategic collecting, and the rigorous regulatory and fiscal structures that govern them.
The course dives extensively thoroughly into the market’s dual structure, analyzing both the primary and secondary markets, as well as the key global art players, such as art galleries and auction houses. By tracing their histories, participants will gain insight into how the traditional pillars of the art market shaped contemporary valuation standards.
Beyond traditional brick-and-mortar institutions, the Executive Master will also look at Art Fairs’ critical function as global networking centers and market catalysts, as well as the art market’s digital transformation. From online viewing rooms and digital-only auctions to the rise of blockchain technology and the Metaverse, it will look at how technology is altering transparency, accessibility, and the very idea of “collecting”.
The hands-on activities will help students learn how to useArtPrice and analyze Art Market Reports, among other tools used in the art market. The goal is to teach participants how to organize provenance research and examine sales data of artwork or artists in order to produce brief market analyses.
A general bibliography for the course will be provided, with further reading suggested for each topic.
Lectures will be structured with a seminar-style section open to discussion.
The following topics will be discussed:
- Course presentation. The art system and market structure.
- The history and evolution of art fairs.
- Site-visit to MiArt art fair
